Lena’s family is from the Merced area. After moving to Sacramento, she spent a year learning alongside her uncle—a farmer who shared his trade with her day by day.
"I was able to get 20 years of farming experience in just the one year that I was living with him."
Merced eventually pulled the family home. Lena’s mother brought plants from their Sacramento farm and replanted them on the new land. What survived became the beginning of Humble Rice Farmer: family roots and farming knowledge gathered into flowers for the community.
